The essay I agree with would be by Lauren Hill who wrote “Is
the holiday Season too materialistic” because she explains not all gift giving
is out of selflessness. There are charities
that help out the less fortunate. I
agree with her because giving a gift to a loved one is special, only receive good
gifts every now and then. The person
will cherish it and think of you in a good way.
It is also an act of kindness, and it is also fun to give and receive gifts. It does not mean to spend all of your money
on one item, it can be bought within a limit. Not all gifts can be bought
though, some people can be creative and make their gifts for their loves ones. That is also a nice way to give someone a
gift and not spend too much money.
Around the holidays my family and I tell each other that we do not want
anything for Christmas. That if we
should get each other something, then it should be within a ten dollar limit. Some of us know each other very well and give
presents that we actually would like, not that it would matter. Even if it was only under ten dollars, it
would be more than enough. Just the
thought of them actually thinking about me at the time to give me something is
more than special. Sometimes ten dollars
is enough, we can look for sales, make the gift, and even just give them
something we know they would like. Or
another way is to just hang out with other, like watch a movie, and talk about
our lives. I believe that is enough because
with work and school, sometimes we just do not have the time for each other.
Its great to set limits on things especially gift giving. Because you never know what to expect.
ReplyDeleteThe value of time is precious. Time is something that you can give someone, that you can never get back. Gift giving shouldn't cost you a fortune. Simple thoughts or gifts are more than enough.
ReplyDeleteSometimes receiving gifts is good but knowing that these holidays like Christmas, Valentines and many other holidays have truly lost their meaning. The people are being misled with commercials and ads as way to get people to spend their hard earned money. A good example would be Veterans Day this day is known as a day to remember the fallen but because of the media it is another form to extort the masses and forget the true meaning of these holidays on look at it as a Veterans Day Sale.

ReplyDeleteIt is the thought that counts when giving gifts. Not everyone can afford to give, but I'm certain there are people out there that still try to help, even with what little they have.
ReplyDeleteEven if you might not spend Christmas in a lavish way, you still manage to keep the spirit alive by spending with your family, sharing stories, or simply just watching a movie. Still, the ten dollar limit is still a cool option for gifts.
